What to Look for in a Strength Coach

One of the biggest problems in the youth coaching sphere is coaches over specializing when the athlete hasn’t developed the fundamentals.

Here’s how to know if you’re coach isn’t great for you.

If you are “working on landing mechanics” when you cannot squat your bodyweight, you should find a new coach.

If your coach is using overly complicated exercises like a lunge and press combo when you cannot deadlift 1.5x bodyweight, find a new coach.

If your coach has you do anything on a stability ball to “improve ankle stability” but you don’t do bulgarian split squats, find a new coach.

If your coach says “you shouldn’t train upper body because it will hurt your throwing”, its because they don’t know how to teach you.

There is a lot of garbage out there in the strength and conditioning realm, and it can be hard to recognize the good from the bad.
