The One Training Tool to Rule Them All
I’ve never met anyone who couldn’t get stronger with a heavy sandbag carry. Heavy carries build monsters out of men, confidence where it was void before, and simultaneously build and show character. Nothing is quite as simple, quite as effective, or efficient at gaining strength as the heavy carry. The carry takes zero skill, has little to no risk of injury, and is easily adaptable for any ability level. When you talk about “functional” exercise, the carry makes the top of the list every time. As much a fan of a barbell as I am, I can train with sandbags every day and get stronger at the barbell, but if I train barbells every day, the inverse is not true. I challenge any person to spend a week of their normal training with just sandbags instead of barbells and take note of the difference in brute strength available.
