Weightlifting Tip: The 1 Kilo Rule
Want to know the single best weightlifting tip to make continued progress in the gym, as well as a great life lesson?
Take advantage of the half kilo plates.
Any time you are going for a PR in the gym, no matter what it is, always break your PR by 1 kilo, and end the session there.
Here’s a little scenario. Lets say you are getting close to a big benchmark weight in your clean and jerk. Say its doing 100kg for the first time and your current best is 96kg. It’s going to be tempting to want to go right to 100kg, but lets say you do 95, jump to 100 and miss it twice before going down to 96, however you’ve already tired yourself out from the 2 cracks at 100 and now you miss 96kg!
What you’ve done is let greed get in the way of making progress.
Don’t let greed get in the way of making progress, even if its 1 kilo at a time, progress is progress, and you are much more likely to make 1 kilo improvements more often than 5 kilo improvements. More importantly, whatever weight you think is important or benchmark weight, is actually just a stepping stone to the next weight. Don’t rush towards immediate gratification now and sacrifice long term success for it.
